Watermelon as Viagra

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

A cold slice of watermelon has long been a Fourth of July holiday staple. But according to recent studies, the juicy fruit may be better suited for Valentine’s Day. That’s because scientists say watermelon has ingredients that deliver Viagra-like effects to the body’s blood vessels and may even increase libido.

“The more we study watermelons, the more we realize just how amazing a fruit it is in providing natural enhancers to the human body,” said Dr. Bhimu Patil, director of Texas A&M’s Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Center in College Station.

“We’ve always known that watermelon is good for you, but the list of its very important healthful benefits grows longer with each study.”

Happy Birthday, Viagra!!!

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

10 years have passed since the sensational arrival of the little blue magic pill that is known to perform wonders. For men fighting erectile dysfunction Viagra has become sort of a synonym to a pair of boxing gloves. The drug started a real sexual revolution only comparable to the one caused by the invention of contraceptive pills. In just ten years Viagra (sildenafil citrate) managed to get into the top list of the world’s best known brand names, helped almost 30 million men around the globe and it looks like there’s still way to go.

As you might or might not know the most appreciated effect of the drug was accidentally discovered during a series of medical trials for a new hypertension medication. The impact of this ‘accident’ can hardly be overestimated, since it completely changed lives of millions of men who were just about to give up on their sexual lives. Pfizer, the manufacturer of the drug, owes a hell lot of money to the Lady Luck.

Viagra is a great workout sportsman

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

When the Daily News approached John Romano about athletes’ love affair with Viagra, the senior editor at bodybuilding magazine Muscular Development laughed.”All the good secrets are getting out,” Romano chuckled.

Viagra, first studied as an aid for hypertension, remedies erectile dysfunction by relaxing blood vessels in the penis.

Athletes have found plenty of other reasons to embrace Vitamin V, though.

Romano said many athletes take Viagra with anabolic steroids before a workout, hoping Viagra’s ability to dilate blood vessels will help deliver the anabolics to their various muscle groups.

“The object of nutrient delivery is to get as much of it in the muscles ahead of time as possible,” said Romano, who said he used Viagra for that reason.

USA approval for once daily Cialis pill

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008
Eli Lilly’s once-a-day version of its erectile dysfunction (ED) treatment Cialis (tadalafil) has finally got the go ahead from US regulators, six months after approval in the EU.

The approval means the new formulation is now available to men on the other side of the Atlantic, allowing sufferers of ED heppy womanto attempt sexual activity at any time between doses, rather than during the narrow time frame dictated by the ‘on demand’ version.
According to Lilly, the once daily Cialis formulation is intended for men who anticipate more frequent sexual activity (i.e. twice weekly), and contains a lower dose than the previously approved version that is taken as needed.
The newly approved formulation, aside from offering perhaps a more convenient and attractive option to men, will also be no more taxing on their wallets. According to Lilly, the wholesale pricing for the once-daily Cialis will be comparable to the as-needed formulation, so that patients who currently use two or more pills of the as-needed version should not have higher treatment costs through using the once-daily product.

Gaining EU approval in June last year, the once-a-day product is currently available only in parts of Europe, but introduction to further countries is expected throughout 2008.

TriMix-gel (TM)

Monday, January 7th, 2008
TriMix Laboratories LLC today announced the introduction of TriMix-gel(TM). TriMix gel has been suggested as an alternative for patients who fail on viagra(R) type pills and cannot or will not self inject with a needle. With twenty million American men currently suffering with ED, current treatments are sufficient in many cases, but there remain more and more men who can’t tolerate the side effects of viagra  type pills and cannot bring themselves to self inject with a needle.
TriMix gel is not an herbal remedy. It contains prescription
medications listed in the US Pharmacopoeia. The active ingredients in this
compounded medicine, prostaglandin, papaverine and phentolamine, have been tested and widely prescribed by physicians for many years. (more…)

Do you still smoke? or abandon smoking or forget about women

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008
If heart disease, stroke and certain cancers haven’t been reason enough for men to quit smoking, consider this: The habit also increases the risk of erectile dysfunction. In fact, emerging research shows that men with a pack-a-day habit are almost 40 percent more likely to struggle with erectile dysfunction than men who don’t smoke.”Smoking delivers nicotine and other vasoconstrictors that close down the blood vessels” of the penis, explained Dr. Jack Mydlo, chairman of urology at Temple University School of Medicine and Hospital in Philadelphia.Erectile dysfunction — also called “ED” or impotence – is the inability to achieve or sustain an erection on repeated occasions. It’s estimated that about two of every 100 American men have erectile dysfunction serious enough to warrant a doctor’s visit, according to the U.S. National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disorders. As men age, the risk of erectile dysfunction increases. A recent study of more than 8,000 Australian men between the ages of 16 and 59 found that those who smoked less than a pack a day had a 24 (more…)

Parkinsons risk

Monday, December 24th, 2007
Results of a study suggest an association between erectile dysfunction and an increased risk of developing Parkinson’s disease. The autonomic nervous system, which regulates involuntary bodily functions like heart rate and digestion, is often affected in Parkinson’s disease, and erectile function, which is controlled by the autonomic system, is commonly compromised, the study team notes in a report. “An important question,” according to Dr. Xiang Gao, of Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, Massachusetts, and colleagues, “is whether erectile dysfunction precedes the onset of motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.”  They examined the question using data from the Health Professionals Follow-up Study. A total of 32,616 men free of Parkinson’s disease in 1986 were included in the present study. In 2000, the men completed a questionnaire with questions on erectile dysfunction in different time periods. The relation between erectile dysfunction before 1986 and Parkinson’s disease risk from 1986 to 2002 was analyzed.

During the 16 years’ follow-up, 200 men were diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

Compared to men who reported very good erectile function before 1986, those who reported erectile dysfunction had a significant 3.8-fold increased risk of developing Parkinson’s disease, the investigators report.

“We further explored possible interactions of erectile function with age, body mass index, cigarette smoking, caffeine intake, and the presence of diabetes during follow-up,” Gao’s team explains. “None of these interactions was significant.”

These findings, they conclude, support the hypothesis that the autonomic nervous system “may have been impaired years before Parkinson’s disease is clinically recognizable.”
